@matrix i want to set up a matrix server for abc.xyz, but it has to run on matrix.abc.xyz, because of several reasons.
this seems to be a thing that should be possible, considering most of your federation documentation consists of the "delegation" part, yet you fail to make clear what "server_name" is: "abc.xyz" or "matrix.abc.xyz", and changing it is impossible???
what is the matter with this?
why are you making this such a secret?
@malte it's really not a secret :) the server name is the thing in your ID - here, abc.xyz. The hostname however can be matrix.abc.xyz, and you point abc.xyz to it via SRV or .well-known URI. https://github.com/matrix-org/synapse/blob/master/docs/federate.md has the details.
you can't change servernames easily though, just like you can't rename email addresses in git commits.
@matrix i got it working 5 seconds ago!
mastodon.matrix.org is one server in the network
