Innsmouth, the coastal Massachusetts city of Lovecraftian horror, was famously based on the sketchy dock district of Newburyport.
... but the real Newburyport is really upscale these days. The docks are a tourist attraction, and they're surrounded by a lovely semi-urban neighborhood I'm sure I couldn't afford to live in.
I wonder if Innsmouth has also gone up-market?
